From the beginning, his theological research has focused on the dialogue with social sciences. For his Master’s degree, he studied the relationship between faith and ideology; for his doctorate, the relationship between faith and cultures using semiotical analysis as a tool to analyze cultures. He has also become interested in the Latin American theology of liberation as a distinct expression of the contextual or intercultured theologies. Likewise, he is interested in known the intercultural character of the Latin American teaching, with studies on Medellín and Aparecida
University management has also been in an important place during his academic career, having contributed to the foundation of the Alberto Hurtado University (1997) and, after that, being its Dean and then Vice-Dean of Integration (2001-2014). Currently, he is in the position of Postgraduate Director of the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (2018-2021).
