Joaquín Silva

He was born in 1956 in Santiago of Chile. He is married and has four children. His undergraduate studies were done at the Compañía de Jesus (Society of Jesus) and the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. He obtained his Doctorate in Theology in 1990, in the Faculty of Catholic Theology of the Universität Tübingen, Germany, under the tutelage of Professor Dr. Peter Hünermann. He has been professor of Fundamental and Dogmatic Theology since 1987 in different Universities in Chile: First at the Catholic University of the Most Holy Conception, 1987 to 1992; then the Catholic University of Maule, in Talca, 1992 to 2003; and since 2003 he is an academic at the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile Between 1996 and 1997 he received a scholarship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for a post-doctorate in the field of religious philosophy.

His research lines are Fundamental theology, Religion philosophy, and Latin American theology.

The main management duties he has performed are: to create and coordinate the Curriculum for the Concepción Seminar, to create and direct the Theological Center of the Catholic University of Maule and then the Faculty of Religious and Philosophic Sciences, to be the Academic Vice-Rector of the Catholic University of Maule, Director of the General Training Program for the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, Director of the Teología y Vida journal, Dean of the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile for two terms, creator and first Director of the Center for the Study of Religion of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.

Several times he has provided theological consultancy to the Episcopal Conference of Chile and has contributed to the training duties of different ecclesiastic institutions in the diocese where he has experienced Youth Ministry, Pastoral Worker Ministry, catechesis, laypeople training, among others.
