Bachelor in Theology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (1987). Postgraduate Degree in Social Sciences from the Latin American Institute of Doctrine and Social Studies (Instituto Latinoamericano de Doctrina y Estudios Sociales – ILADES) (1989). Doctor of Theology from the Eberhard-Karls-Universität de Tübingen, Germany (1994). Post-doctorate with a scholarship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in the University of Tübingen, Germany (2000-2001).
He has been a professor of systematic and practical theology and researcher at the Catholic University of the North in Coquimbo, at the Alberto Hurtado University, and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (2010 to date). He has held several positions in academic management. In UC, he has been Director of the Bachelor Program in pastoral Studies, Director of General Education, Academic Secretary of two deaneries, and Dean between October 2019 and October 2022.
